
The District of Northern Saxony is located in the North and Northwest of Leipzig. It borders the länder of Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. Home to about 217,000 inhabitants, the district resulted from the merger of the former districts of Delitzsch and Torgau-Oschatz in 2008. The district’s landscape, economy and tourism resources are very diverse. The area includes the Nature Park Dueben Heath, the Dahlen Heath, the Wermsdorf forest and the meadows of the Elbe and Mulde rivers. The district’s most important economic branches are health industries, tourism, food processing and logistics (Leipzig/Halle airport).
