
As the name suggest, the District of Central Saxony is located in the centre of the Free State of Saxony. The district evolved from the former districts of Döbeln, Freiberg and Mittweida. Central Saxony has approximately 335,000 inhabitants. The seat of the public administration is Freiberg, the area largest city.
The district surface encompasses different landscapes as it reaches from the Ore Mountains on the Czech border to the neighbouring land of Thuringia. The area’s economy is not less diverse: high technologies such as photovoltaic and recycling can be found as well as automotive industries, cosmetics and agriculture.
Main tourism destinations are the former Cistercians monastery at Buch, the Kriebstein dam, the Augustusburg castle, the Freiberg cathedral and the Silver Street in the Ore Mountains.
