Leipzig is a city of Northwest Saxony with approximately 516,000 inhabitants. The commercial centre is home to the University of Leipzig, the Leipzig Fair and seat of leading businesses such as BMW, Porsche, DHL, Amazon and the Verbundnetz Gas AG.
Besides Leipzig’s great musical tradition that includes the workings of Johann Sebastian Bachs, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys, the Gewandhaus orchestra and the Thomanerchor (choir), the city is well-known for the creative endeavours of its inhabitants, artists and cultural promoters.
The 1989 peaceful democratic movement, decisive to overcome the communist dictatorship in East Germany, originated in Leipzig and earned the city and its inhabitants a heroic status that defines Leipzig’s worldwide reputation ever since.
The local municipality controls the majority of Aufbauwerk’s shares.
